Parmant Antoon is a lower-secondary school in Eindhoven offering all vmbo levels. At Parmant Antoon, students do not have to choose their final level right away. Instead, they are given time and guidance to discover which learning pathway suits them best.
In small classes, students are supported by dedicated mentors who ensure a safe, structured, and encouraging start in secondary education. Personal attention and clear guidance help students build confidence and feel at home at school.
Through the AntoonRoute, students explore their talents, develop essential skills, and gradually prepare for the next step in their education. By combining personal guidance, talent development, and a calm learning environment, Parmant Antoon offers students a strong and confident start to their school career.
The Dutch school system explained
In the Netherlands, all children attend primary school from the age of 4 to 12. After primary school, students move on to secondary education, which is divided into three main educational streams. This system allows students to learn at a level that best matches their abilities and learning style.
The three school track options are:
1. Pre-vocational secondary education (vmbo),
2. Senior general secondary education (havo),
3. Pre-university education (vwo).
At Parmant Antoon we offer vmbo.
Vmbo – Preparatory vocational education
Vmbo is a secondary education stream with a strong practical focus. Students combine vocational subjects with general subjects such as Dutch and English. There are different Vmbo levels, ranging from more practice-oriented programmes to more academically focused ones, preparing students for further vocational education (Mbo). Vmbo is usually completed around the age of 16, and students who complete Vmbo-t may progress to Havo.
At Parmant Antoon, Vmbo is organised as a two-year lower secondary programme. This preparatory phase is designed for students who benefit from a smaller, more supported start in secondary education. These two years are used intentionally to give students an extra boost: building confidence, discovering strengths, and developing the skills needed for the next step in their school career.
Parmant Antoon is particularly strong in supporting students who prefer a gradual transition into secondary education. After these two years, students can continue and complete their Vmbo education at another secondary school in the region. With the ‘Parmant Stroomt Door’ approach, Parmant Antoon offers well-aligned guidance and continuity, strengthening smooth transitions within the wider Parmant scholen group.
